This a little eclectic, essentially it's a compilation of leftovers, two tracks from the '61 Village Vanguard performances, and two from separate studio dates. The two live cuts demonstrate Coltrane increasingly expansive approach which was such an influence on Rock musicians such as Mike Butterfield, The Byrds, and the Grateful Dead 's progressive work, and it helps to be in that Psychedelic frame of mind to appreciate the point. At this point his music was starting to demand far more from the listener, and of the two live tunes I find "India" the more accessible. In contrast "Up Against The Wall" is a fairly lightweight, short number, and "After The Rain" is a beautiful, melancholic type of ballad that is probably the highlight of the disk.
